DBT Skills Class Program

A DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) skills class is a 24 week long program where individuals learn and practice skills to manage emotions, improve relationships, and cope with distress more effectively. The classes are lead by a specially trained therapist with 10+ years experience teaching DBT skills classes. Multiple research studies have shown that a wide variety of people can benefit from attending a 24 week DBT class curriculum. However, DBT skills classes are not a good fit for everyone. We encourage you to schedule an orientation phone call and read our class FAQ to decide if this type of therapy class could be helpful to you.

DBT Skills are a set of coping strategies that can help you be more effective in your current life. The Skills were collected and researched by Dr. Marsha Linehan as part of a treatment for clients with severe difficulties with emotion dysregulation. They are one part of a larger therapy called Comprehensive Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Not everyone needs Comprehensive Dialectical Behavior Therapy, but it turns out many people can benefit from the DBT Skills portion of the treatment even if you are not currently seeing an individual or DBT therapist
Main Topics Covered in Our 24 Week curriculum:

  • Mindfulness-mindfulness skills help you stop engaging in behaviors, thoughts or actions without conscious awareness. Learning to live in the current moment has also been shown to improve people's satisfaction with their lives.
  • Emotion Regulation -naming and understanding your emotions, decreasing problematic reactivity to strong emotions, increasing the frequency of pleasant emotions, decreasing emotional suffering.
  •  Distress Tolerance- learning skills to tolerate difficult moments without making things worse by acting on emotional impulses
  • Interpersonal Effectiveness - learning to ask effectively for things you want, learning how to say no so people will hear you, strengthening current relationships, increasing self-confidence.
